You can set them up to pay your regular bills at set times, such as utility bills and insurance premiums. What is the difference between a direct debit and a recurring payment? A direct debit is a regular automatic payment from your bank account while a recurring payment is a regular automatic payment from your debit or credit card. Direct DebitsHow do I set up a direct debit? To set up a direct debit, all you need to do is quote our BSB 882-000 and your account number to the merchant. How do I cancel or stop a direct debit? You can stop or cancel a direct debit by contacting us. We recommend you do this at least 2 weeks before the payment is scheduled to be made. We recommend you also contact the merchant to let them know that you have cancelled the direct debit as they might charge you a fee if the payment is rejected. The direct debit cancellation will take effect in 24 hours. There is no charge for us to cancel the direct debit.
